NPR Blunder?

Even though I was all alone in my car this morning I felt very awkward because of the following that came through my radio via NPR:
"We would like to thank our sponsor, the St. Louis Science Center.  Check out Tornado Alley showing now at the imax!"
:::::momentary pause:::::
"Eighty-six have been confirmed dead from last night's tornado in Joplin, Missouri..."

Does anyone else find this just a bit tasteless?  It was strange that it was the same guy doing the sponsorship announcement and the news coverage and that he still didn't catch it.

"Working hard or hardly working?"

This week I officially made the decision to no longer be a part of 9 to 5 corporate American (at least for now).  I want to work on my art, train my dogs, decorate my house, grow an organic garden and spend time with my adorable structure-loving (corporate America) husband.

I am ecstatic to leave behind creepy office guy, "Why aren't you using your art degree?" and rush hour.  Leaving all that means that I also have to leave behind many wonderful sweet coworkers, a few great friends and one additional income.  Very bittersweet two weeks for me.

However, I am finally going to put to use all the supplies and tools I bought with the future in mind.  The month of June is going to be a busy and productive month.

I want to do what I love like this hilarious lovely lady:
The amazing Amy Sedaris.

My husband says this is me...

He says that I have the attention span of a squirrel on coffee and I guess I couldn't really agree more.  I saw this and thought it was a perfect illustration.  Look how cute I am though!

A house is not a home without a dog... or 11.

Coming back soon to blog is my new summer's resolution.

Be prepared to hear all about my life the past 9 months with 11 dogs in my small home.  2 of my own and 9 abandoned precious puppies.

Here's a preview:

"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."  ~Samuel Butler, Notebooks, 1912

Cutest Thief Ever

So in our living room we have this big picture window with some floor length curtains just loosely hanging down.  Anyway, I want them to be hanging up permanently but we have this problem we call a Scout.  If you haven't heard already she is our ADORABLE oldest daughter of three.  Seriously adorable, she's got big chocolate brown eyes and freckles on her nose and she has an obsession with sheets.  She loves when I'm wearing long dresses and runs through them or just sticks her nose out - cute and annoying.  We have finally gotten the tearing the sheets off our bed down (after she ripped holes in TWO sets).  So I'm sitting on the couch hot gluing this or that and see one of the curtains fall down.  Assuming it was just from the heat coming on I ignored it and then I see her run down the hall like she is a ghost for Halloween.  Since this moment she has continued to pull down our curtains and run all over the house.  No sheet, blanket, cover or towl is safe here.

Part II of my Productive Afternoon

This chair appeared in our carport before I even met my husband.  It was old and frankly pretty gross but I was still horrified at his suggestion to just toss it.  He said that a donation center wouldn't even want it.  I told him it was "beautiful" to which he laughed about me having yet another unstarted project.  Well, I forgot to take before pictures (and am really regretting it now) but here it is!

James and I helped my mom out by working at an estate sale she was running.  We went home with a car packed full of more things we didn't need but were appealing just the same like an Elvis swinging hip clock, a Lionel Barrymore designed Christmas card, a gigantic rainbow umbrella and a gaudy gold picture frame.  Most of these are still in a boxes but not the gold picture frame.  Of course I had to modify it first but it is now boldly hanging in my kitchen above my Kitchen-Aid pedestol.  I dry brushed white paint on the frame and used some black chalkboard paint I got 12 years ago.  Voila!

Art school was worth it, huh?

About a week ago I splurged on some fabric.  Here's a small portion of it:

I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with all of it though.  Especially this one...

Any suggestions?

Colorful Chairs

I accomplished a lot in one afternoon thanks to caffeine.  I painted and reupholstered all six of my kitchen chairs, sanded and painted an old chair bright canary yellow and also created a Tiffany blue pedastol for my well deserving Kitchen Aid mixer.  I hope this energy doesn't die down any time soon!

New Year's Resolutions

As always I'm fashionably late.

This year I would like to regularly update my blog though I don't know who would actually read it.  Be prepared for lots of titles that are puns... my favorite.  : )

Also, being of artistic mind I will probably have more pictures than words to show what's going on in our life.  There will be cuter and more puppy pictures than icanhascheezburger.com.  Here's something that will keep you coming back for sure.

Largest Craft Fair in Cottleville

It’s a bit of a different fair than Strange Folk but I’m excited about it none the less. I’ll be at the St. Joseph’s Craft Fair in Cottleville, MO (near St. Charles) on Saturday the 17th this month.
No puppies this time around unfortunately though. : (

The Festival of the Folks of Strange

So my first art festival went exceptionally well! I had such a great time and am disappointed I must wait one full year to hopefully be a part of it again. strangefolkfestival.com

Saturday was having an identity crisis and was hot then cold and back and forth until finally it rested on cold and a very heavy thunderstorm emerged. When it eventually calmed there were only a few hours left for that day so it wasn’t really too busy. I do wish I could thank the few people that bought stuff during the storm again. Yes, the dog biscuits ARE that good! : )

After the first day I had to go home and rush around making even more dog biscuits and bookmarks for Sunday which almost sold out again. I couldn’t ask for a better introduction into the art fair realm.

The freshly made dog treats. : )

Hello to my zero followers. Sigh... maybe one day. : )

I am trying to organize all my projects for the Strange Folk Festival in one month. I still have no idea about all the stuff I will be featuring. I'm ready to attempt more marketing! : P
